WRAL Weather Alert Day: Severe thunderstorm warning for Johnston, Wayne and Wilson counties until 5:30 p.m. — According to the National Weather Service, a storm capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail was spotted around 4:26 p.m. 15 miles east of Smithfield. The storm is moving southwest at 15 mph. The NWS said hail damage to vehicles is expected. more
